California Minimalist is designed to share information and experiences through conversations in an effort to inspire action that supports the well-being of our environment.

I believe that one of the many ways to support environmental sustainability is to live a minimalistic lifestyle: less stuff, more life, happy planet!

My dream goal is to wake up every day with a 100% focus on making California Minimalist the most dynamic and inspiring destination for eco-minded conversations.

Enter: affiliates!

The Brands California Minimalist Promotes

Throughout this website, I mention things that I love. All these products, services and experiences are from brands that I currently use myself, have used in the past or have tried out and highly recommend.

I have high standards for the brands that I partner with and my affiliate list is currently short. As part of my research when vetting these brands, I make sure they meet at least two of the following criteria:

  1. Sell products, services or experiences that are sourced and manufactured or created in a way that protects our planet’s future
  2. Are committed to environmental and social responsibility and openly mention this in their mission, vision and/or brand goals
  3. Are either a Certified B Corp or in the certification process
  4. A member of 1% for the Planet
  5. Provide carbon-neutral shipping and are certified, or on-track to be, Carbon Neutral Certified

Most of the brands I talk about meet ALL of the above criteria.

That means you will never see an affiliate link to Amazon, btw!

Benefits of Affiliate Marketing

When I recommend one of these brands, I link to the company’s website using what is known as an affiliate or referral link. If you follow the link and end up purchasing a product, service or experience from one of these super eco-minded companies, I earn a small commission.

Sometimes that commission is just a few cents and sometimes it is a few dollars. Although it really is a win-win-win-win:

Win: California Minimalist earns a small commission to keep supporting research and content creation

Win: You are connected with vetted and sustainable brands and get to bypass doing your own extensive research

Win: The brand is the recipient of more business and recognition, helping them expand their reach and inspire responsible purchasing

Win: The planet becomes happier and healthier with every mindful, eco-friendly decision

Affiliate Links

By using the affiliate link, it doesn’t cost you (or me) a penny! The entire commission comes out of the vendor’s pocket as they are super excited to partner with eco-warriors like us and get help spreading the word that there are many ways to purchase responsibly.

There are two ways I call out when I am using an affiliate link. When I mention an affiliate on a page, there will be a blurb at the top to let you know. So you can easily tell what links are to affiliate on that page, it will have (affiliate link) after it. For instance, this is what an affiliate link to my go-to toilet paper brand, WhoGivesACrap, looks like:

WhoGivesACrap (affiliate link)

On some pages or blogs, especially when I am putting a spotlight on an a brand I love who is also an affiliate, the blurb at the top of the page will let you know that all links on that page are affiliate links. That way the content won't get muddled up with a bunch of separate (affiliate link) mentions.

Just a heads up that not every link on this website leads to an affiliate. Sometimes I just like to share information that might enhance your experience here at California Minimalist!
